Army commemorates Kargil Vijay Diwas Rajat Jayanti across north-eastern states

Indian Army commemorated the Rajat Jayanti (25th Anniversary) of Kargil Vijay Diwas with a series of events across Assam, Tripura, Nagaland, and Manipur from July 20 to 26, 2024. The events included honouring the bravery and sacrifice of Kargil heroes, their families, and the spirit of patriotism and national pride among the people of the North-Eastern states, informed PRO & Spokesperson, Ministry of Defence, Manipur, Nagaland and Southern Arunachal Pradesh.

In Manipur, Maj Gen Sameer Sharan Kartikeya, GOC Red Shield Division paid homage at the War Memorial in Leimakhong Military Station, Manipur paying floral tribute to the brave hearts who made supreme sacrifice in the line of duty for the motherland.

A tree plantation drive, inaugurated by all ranks and families of the garrison was held in the memory of the martyrs. Display of army weapons and equipment gave an enthralling experience to children and an Army band mesmerised the audience in the evening by Playing some of the most melodious tunes filled with patriotic fervour.

Through Art and Craft competitions, children got an opportunity to express their feelings and perceptions about the Kargil War. Football tournament held at Moirang, Bishnupur from July 23 to 26 2024, further marked the celebrations. Interaction and felicitation events with war veterans, Veer Naaris and Veer Matas were held at Senapati and Phougakchao.

In Nagaland, a solemn wreath-laying ceremony was held at the Zakhama Military Station on July 26, 2024 in memory of the valour and sacrifice of heroes of Operation Vijay, followed by the felicitation of veterans.

Upper Assam celebrated the auspicious day by organising ‘A Day with Company Commander’ at Kakopathar, Pengri, and Tipong Army camps on July 20, 2024. The event, included flag hoisting, team-building games, and a screening of a patriotic movie for students, teachers, Ex-Servicemen, and Veer Naris.

Tributes were also paid to the parents of Kargil War Hero Captain Jintu Gogoi, Vir Chakra, on July 19, 2024 at their residence in Golaghat, Assam.

At Agartala, the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas was commemorated with multiple events. A felicitation ceremony honouring 12 Veer Naris and Veer Matas was held on July 20, 2024.

A patriotic movie was screened and lectures on July 25 inspired students of Kendriya Vidyalaya No.1 GC CRPF, Delhi World Public School, Don Bosco School, and Auxilium Girls School.The campaign concluded at Agartala on July 26, 2024 with a wreath-laying ceremony at Albert Ekka Park, where Army officials and dignitaries paid tribute to the brave hearts who made the supreme sacrifice for the nation.

 

Additionally, in a heartfelt celebration of 25 years of Vijay Diwas, the Assam Rifles honoured the bravery and sacrifice of Captain Neikezhakuo Kenguruse, MVC (posthumous), with a special ceremony held at Primary Schools of Pokhpur, Pungro, Mimi and Akhegwo in Kiphire district, Nagaland on July, 26. The event commemorated India’s victory in the Kargil War and paid tribute to the heroes who laid down their lives for the nation. The ceremony was attended by 275 students, teachers and village authorities.


The event began with the Company Commanders delivering a poignant lecture, recounting the heroic deeds of Captain Kenguruse and the significance of Vijay Diwas. This was followed by a series of video presentations, highlighting the key moments of the Kargil War and the significance of Vijay Diwas providing an educational experience for the students, enhancing their understanding of India’s military history. The ceremony concluded with the singing of the national anthem and refreshments.

In addition commemorative events were conducted at all Company Operating Bases of the Kiphire battalion. Each COB held ceremonies honouring Vijay Diwas, ensuring that the significance of the day was recognised across the entire battalion. Flag hoisting ceremonies were also conducted symbolising the unity and pride of the Assam Rifles in commemorating this significant day.

The Assam Rifles reiterated their commitment to fostering a sense of national pride and awareness among the youth through such commemorative events. As India celebrates Vijay Diwas, the bravery of heroes like Captain N. Kenguruse continues to serve as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made for the nation’s peace and security. The events organised by the Indian Army fostered national pride and highlighted the Indian Army’s enduring legacy of courage and dedication.
