The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organised a campaign programme for the Wokha Town Council ULB By-Election 2026 for Tsumang B Ward No. 8 at the VDB Hall, Wokha Town, on June 13.

The programme was attended by Deputy Chief Minister and BJP Legislature Party (BLP) Leader, Nagaland, Yanthungo Patton; Advisor for Information & Public Relations, Soil & Water Conservation, Nagaland, Daochier I Imchen; BJP Nagaland State President, Benjamin Yepthomi; and Councillor of Dimapur Municipal Council and BJYM Nagaland President, V Khekato Awomi.

During the programme, BJP Nagaland State President, Benjamin Yepthomi officially declared Mhomo Humtsoe as the party candidate for the forthcoming Wokha Town Council ULB By-Election from Tsumang B Ward No. 8.

Addressing the media, Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton stated that the BJP and NPF its alliance partner are working together in the Wokha Town Council. Referring to the present arrangement, he said the alliance partner holds 11 seats while the BJP has three seats, adding that even if the BJP wins the by-election, its strength would increase to four seats.

He maintained that there would be no issue as both parties are alliance partners. Patton further stated that if any allegation of proxy voting or other electoral irregularities arises, the matter would be approached through the Election Commission for review.

Delivering the keynote address, Benjamin Yepthomi said the Lotha community should be proud to have Yanthungo Patton serving as the Deputy Chief Minister despite the community having only four representatives in the 60-member Nagaland Legislative Assembly. He observed that attaining such a position is not easy and urged the community to unite and support its leaders.

Yepthomi remarked that while no individual is perfect and mistakes are inevitable, people often overlook numerous good deeds and focus on a single mistake. He encouraged the community to recognise and appreciate positive contributions as well.
