CM Rio inaugurates Working Women’s Hostel in Dimapur

A working women’s hostel was inaugurated today by the Chief Minister of Nagaland Neiphiu Rio in Dimapur in the presence of Principal Secretary, Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, I Himato Zhimomi, and other dignitaries.

Speaking at the inaugural programme, Zhimomi said women who form half of the economy must grow and the working women’s hostel epitomises this goal.

“We have to ensure that every single 50% of our society gets into the working field, it is only then that our society is going to grow in a holistic manner,” Zhimomi added.

Chief Minister Rio, in his address, said the construction of the gigantic building was a long vision that has come true.  “It is a joy for all, that this working women hostel will be made available for all working women without any discrimination,” he added.

Rio also congratulated the department for successfully completing the building and mentioned that this was an important initiative of the Government of India. He further appreciated the Northern Angami Public Organization for providing the land to set up the hostel.

The Chief Minister urged upon the people and the department to maintain and protect the sanctity of the building which aims at providing safe and affordable accommodation to working women.

Calling attention to the huge urbanisation taking place in the state, he said, in this regard, the working women’s hostel would come in handy.

Rio observed that the facility would go a long way in building the lives of BPL category and helpless women who are employed out of their hometown.

Reflecting on the changes that have come about in Dimapur, with lakhs of residents and changing landscape, the Chief Minister said not all have homes and therefore the hostel would particularly help women find housing.

Rio hoped that the facility would be utilised to promote women’s welfare and also would be a lesson for all to grow together.

Speaking on entrepreneurship, Rio said the government cannot run businesses but this should be the undertaking of the private sector. “Young entrepreneurs, modern farming and modern technologies will bring a boom in the economy of our society,” he added and urged leaders to train and promote young entrepreneurs.

Er Theruovituo Pienyu Executive Engineer, Municipal Affairs presented the technical report and highlighted that the Working Women’s Hostel has a total of 51 units. It also has amenities like a lobby, a stationary store, a pharmacy, a doctor’s room, a waiting area, an indoor game area, a kitchen and dining room, a conference hall with open terrace and a daycare centre.

A unit in the ground floor is reserved for Persons with Disabilities.

Zeneituo Yano, President Northern Angami Public Organization, said the organization was proud that the land was being utilized for something which is fruitful and beneficial. He expressed gratitude to the chief minister for his support towards the project

The programme was chaired by I Himato Zhimoni, Principal Secretary, Urban Development and Municipal Affairs.

The invocation was delivered by Vilasetuo Suokhrie, Pastor of Angami Baptist Church, Northern Angami colony. The vote of thanks was proposed by Solesul Thoire, Additional Director and HoD Directorate of Municipal Affairs.
