The District Administration, Mokokchung, on April 6 cancelled all permissions granted for setting up temporary party offices by contesting candidates under the 28-Koridang Assembly Constituency with immediate effect, citing the prevailing law and order situation.
In an order issued by Nockpai Konyak, NCS, Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil) and Returning Officer, 28 Koridang AC, it was stated that the permissions earlier granted by the office stand withdrawn in supersession, in the interest of maintaining peace and tranquillity in the constituency. All concerned have been directed to ensure immediate compliance.
Meanwhile, in a separate press release, the Office of the Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate, Mokokchung, provided details of the Longkhum incident.
According to the administration, a scuffle between supporters of candidate Daochier I. Imchen and candidate Toshikaba began at around 1500 hours on April 5 at Longkhum village under 28-Koridang AC. The situation was initially brought under control with the intervention of police personnel.
However, the clash erupted again at around 2100 hours and 2300 hours the same day. The release stated that some supporters of the opposing side, armed with stones, wooden poles and other objects, launched attacks, pelting stones and assaulting persons present at the scene.
As a result, three persons sustained grievous injuries and were later admitted to the District Hospital, Mokokchung, for treatment.

One of the injured, identified as Imrongsungba Imchen, son of Jongpongmar from Longkhum village and a resident of Artang Ward, Mokokchung town, succumbed to his injuries while being transported outside the district for further medical attention.
The administration informed that an FIR has been registered in connection with the incident and necessary action has been initiated as per relevant provisions of law.
As a precautionary measure, and in view of the prevailing situation, night curfew and restrictions have been imposed in three villages under 28-Koridang AC, including Longkhum village, vide an earlier order issued by the District Magistrate.
The administration stated that the measures have been put in place to maintain law and order and ensure peace in the constituency.
