The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has strongly condemned what it described as an illegal mutation and fraudulent transfer of land under Patta No. 890, despite its prior cancellation by the district administration on November 23, 2009.

In a statement, the Union alleged that despite its lawful cancellation, the same land was subsequently mutated in 2012 through tampering of the original Field Chitha Book and transferred into the names of Girdharlal Sharma, Bajrang Lal Pareek, and Kumar Sharma.

The DNSU termed the development a “serious violation of law and administrative integrity.” It further claimed that the individuals involved do not possess valid Indigenous Certificates, raising grave concerns over the legality and legitimacy of such transactions.

According to the Union, the land in question was reportedly procured from Nirmal Jain through the use of local or benami names, with the transactions being witnessed and facilitated under questionable circumstances.

The DNSU also stated that it had earlier exposed individuals including Girdharlal Sharma, Dr Sundar Pareek and Vinod Kumar Sharma in connection with the matter, and issued a stern warning to any individual or group attempting to engage in or facilitate such illegal transfers.

“This is not an isolated land dispute, it is a matter that concerns the collective rights, identity, and future of the Nagas,” the Union said asserting that “Land and its resources are intrinsic to our existence, and we cannot allow external elements to exploit or encroach upon what rightfully belongs to our people”.

It said while population may increase, land remains finite and must be protected with utmost vigilance.

The DNSU appealed to the Government and concerned authorities to immediately halt any issuance, mutation, or transfer of the said land until the matter is thoroughly investigated and resolved

It also urged to initiate strict legal action against all individuals involved in the fraudulent manipulation of official land records.

The Union urged to identify and seize all lands acquired through benami or illegal means, and ensure such lands are preserved for or utilized in the interest of the Naga public.

The DNSU further reiterated its unwavering commitment to safeguarding Naga land and rights and said it would continue to take all necessary steps to uphold justice and accountability.
