The Fire & Emergency Services Department, Kiphire, conducted a mock fire drill at the Cooperative Bank premises to educate and prepare staff members for potential fire emergencies.
Speaking during the exercise, Meyilemba Jamir, ASI of the Fire Service, stated that such drills would prepare the victims of fire to counter unknown and sudden accidents that come without warning.
According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), over 60 people die every day in India due to fire-related incidents, with an estimated 25,000 fatalities reported annually. The most common causes of fire accidents include cooking-related mishaps, electrical equipment failures, and smoking materials left unattended. Candles, if not properly placed or monitored, also pose a significant fire hazard.

The mock drill was actively witnessed by all staff members and workers of the Cooperative Bank, providing them with essential knowledge and skills to handle fire emergencies. The department also carried out a fire simulation to replicate a real-life scenario, making the drill more practical and easier to understand.
The exercise aimed to build confidence among participants and ensure they are better prepared to act swiftly and safely in the event of a fire.
