Governor of Nagaland & Assam Prof Jagdish Mukhi, on Friday, visited Touphema village and had an interaction programme at the Village Council Hall, Touphema village.

Prof Mukhi, while interacting with the villagers, remarked that Nagaland is “known as the land of warriors’ and said he has high regards for the Nagas as the Nagas resisted and gave a tough fight to the Britishers in the last World War.

He also added that cultural activities, dances, songs and dramas are in the blood of Nagas as observed on the inaugural day of the Hornbill Festival. The cultural troupes presented a cultural extravaganza that attracts people throughout the country and from abroad, he stated, adding that Nagaland, though a small state, is a very important state for the country.

He was of the view that government jobs are almost exhausted now and urged the youth, especially the literate youth, to venture and expedite in the field of agriculture as their profession. Having agriculture in their own land with the latest technologies and with the help of the government will boost up the economy of the state, he added.

He also mentioned that farmers should be issued land cards so that they can be guided at what type of crops should be sowed in their soil. He also assured those gathered that the government is committed to providing seeds and manure for the dedicated farmers, or pesticides if essential.

Market linkage, transportation and modern facilities among others being important factors, the Governor gave his assurances that the government would take those into account. He further stated that the government shall ensure that the crops are being insured in the PM scheme so that farmers get the full return and proper value for the produce.

Concluding his interaction, Prof Mukhi reminded that Nagas are expecting a lasting peace agreement and expressed that he was confident for a final agreement, one that is fair to most and meets the expectations and aspirations, to be reached soon.

Earlier, Vice Chairman, Touphema Village Council, Dziesengulie Seyie delivered the welcome address. A cultural show was presented by Touphema Women Cultural group and Neichiituo Rio and Party.

A brief report was presented by Joint Forest Management Committee, Tuophema and Khrukhre VLO Touphema.

Later, the governor also visited the Rural Museum, Amphitheater and the Kense Morung of the village.
