In a significant step towards nurturing grassroots football talent in Nagaland, the Kichutip Sporting Association (KSA) under the aegis of Mokokchung District Football Association (MDFA) has announced the first-ever Under-15 Futsal Tournament in the state, scheduled to be held from July 1 to 3, 2025 at the Mujabi Futsal Turf, Salangtem Ward, Mokokchung.
A press conference was held today at Arok Salang, where KSA President Imtichiba Kichu briefed the media about the association’s journey and the significance of this landmark event. Established in 1998 under the motto “Greater Heights”, the KSA celebrated its Silver Jubilee in 2023, and currently has a vibrant membership of over 200 registered individuals. The association has actively promoted sports among youth, with several members having participated in national and international events.
Kichu described the Under-15 tournament as a milestone for the association, marking its first major event for grassroots football. Themed “Rise Up”, the tournament is envisioned as a platform to nurture young talent.
Tinukaba Longchar, Convenor of the Tournament Planning Committee, explained that the idea for the tournament emerged during KSA’s Silver Jubilee 2023 year. “This may well be the first of its kind in Nagaland,” Longchar said, noting that the timing may coincide with the summer vacation in most schools, providing a perfect opportunity for young players to engage in competitive sport.
“While there are many tournaments for youth and senior players, there’s a lack of structured platforms for children. This tournament aims to bridge that gap,” he added.
The 6-a-side tournament is open to teams from across Nagaland, with confirmed entries from Dimapur, Mokokchung, and several other districts. The registration fee is ₹2000 per team, and the last date for registration is June 15, 2025. Participating players must be born on or after January 1, 2010.

The KSA intends to make this an annual running trophy, and if successful, plans are in place to launch an Under-13 Baby League in the near future.
Er. Taliwapang, another member of the planning committee, reiterated that the tournament is part of KSA’s long-term commitment to grassroots football development and stems directly from the association’s Silver Jubilee resolutions.
The event Is being sponsored by NI Enterprise and Longterok Football Club, with Nagaland Tribune as the official media partner. Other event partners include HPCL, MKG Sports Store, Moalong Sounds & Lights, Dots & Lines, Kichu Towing, R&M Stay, and several local businesses.
