The Kiphire District Narcotics Coordination Committee (NCORD) meeting was held at the DPDB Conference Hall, Kiphire, on June 23. The meeting was chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Kiphire, Longdiba L Sangtam, NCS.
ADC Longdiba, along with Superintendent of Police, Kiphire, Chinese Chakhesang, NPS, briefed on the agenda for the meeting and reviewed the overall law and order situation relating to narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances in Kiphire District. The meeting assessed enforcement action taken by the Police, Excise, and other agencies since the last NCORD meeting, including detection of NDPS cases, seizures, asset attachment, prosecution status, and follow-up action.
Discussions focused on strengthening inter-departmental coordination and intelligence sharing among the Police, District Administration, Excise, Health, Education, Social Welfare, and other line departments for timely detection, prevention, and response to drug-related activities.
The house also reviewed preventive and awareness measures undertaken in schools, colleges, villages, and communities, including sensitization programmes, youth outreach, and the involvement of village councils, churches, CSOs, and student bodies.

The status of counselling, de-addiction, rehabilitation, and treatment support mechanisms available in the district was reviewed, along with the referral system in place for persons affected by substance abuse. The meeting also took stock of monitoring efforts on pharmacy sales of prescription and controlled medicines, and misuse of pharmaceutical drugs, in coordination with the Health Department and law enforcement agencies.
District-level action against illicit cultivation, trafficking, transportation, and local peddling of narcotic substances was reviewed, along with measures for intensified surveillance and enforcement. The house also discussed strengthening check gates and verification mechanisms to curb the inflow and transit of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances through the district.
Further discussions covered community-based vigilance and public participation, including the role of village councils, GBs, ward authorities, NGOs, women’s groups, and youth organisations in reporting and preventing drug-related activities. The meeting also reviewed decisions taken at the previous NCORD meeting and the Action Taken Report (ATR), including compliance by all concerned departments and agencies.
