Longleng DDMA coordinating meeting held

In order to assess the destruction caused by the natural calamities that occurred in Longleng, an emergency meeting of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Longleng was convened at DPDB hall, Longleng on July 27.

The meeting deliberated on measures for the clearance and restoration of roads affected by the calamities. MLA & Advisor for Airways and Railways, A Pongshi Phom and MLA, B Bangtick Phom, also attended the meeting.

In the meeting, Pongshi Phom said that the entire Phom area has been affected by the natural disaster that struck on July 19 and 20, leaving road connectivity crippled across the region, and expressed that the incident is deeply unfortunate.

However, he stated that it is a relief for the district since no loss of life or major property damage has been reported.

The District Administration, along with the Phom Peoples’ Council, well-wishers, churches, student bodies, civil societies and members of the public who have come forward to help during this turbulent time have been appreciated for their support.

He also stated that the distribution of ration and basic amenities in the district will be coordinated with the Deputy Commissioner and will be carried out equitably across all sections of society. The public has been urged to cooperate and exercise understanding until normalcy is restored.

He also appealed the citizens not to misuse the free transportation services provided by the government. Priority will be given to students and sick persons, he added.

Officials have encouraged the public to remain calm and not panic, assuring that the concerned departments are working to restore normalcy as soon as possible. Both the MLAs assured to submit the detailed data records road profile collected from the damaged areas to the Chief Secretary Government of Nagaland.

Deputy Commissioner & Chairman DDMA Longleng, W Manpai Phom, chaired the meeting and thanked both the MLAs for their presence in the meeting. The DC presented the detailed ground assessment of Rock, Mud, Debris, Avalanches under Longleng District through a PowerPoint presentation.

He also informed that all data records, road profile has been prepared and arranged ready to submit to the Chief Secretary through the MLAs.

The meeting was attended by all the members of the DDMA Longleng, HoDs and Civil society organisations. The meeting concluded with a prayer pronounced by Executive Secretary PBCA, N. Tialemba Phom.
