The Ao Students’ Conference or Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (AKM) has said on Friday that despite being directed to report to their posting locations, the majority of the teachers deployed to schools in Mokokchung district by Directorate of School Education (DoSE) in two different orders have failed to do so.
The AKM in a press release said DoSE had issued the first Rationalization/Re-deployment order of teachers for Mokokchung district on 26 October and the second on 1 November of this year. In both orders, the teachers had been instructed to report within seven days from those dates, but most teachers are yet to report for duty.
The Ao Students’ Conference has asked DoSE “what actions have been taken” regarding this matter.
“The negligence of both the teachers and the government is affecting the lives and future of thousands of students in the district,” it said, adding that the “non-compliance of orders and leniency of the government” reflect “the state of affairs in the state”.
The AKM requested the concerned department to take up the matter with “utmost urgency” so that the students do not have to suffer further, particularly when the academic year is nearly drawing to an end.
Earlier on 28 October, in a press release the AKM pointed out that the “inappropriate and/or disproportionate posting of teachers in schools” had led to a situation where some schools had excess teachers while many others had inadequate subject teachers. It said some schools even had to hire private teachers, sponsored by the community.

On 25 October, the Tzürangkong Kaketshir Mungdang (TKM) had closed all government schools and Educational Block Research Centres (EBRC) under Tsürangkong range for an indefinite period over the issue of inadequate teachers.
The student body had earlier served a 15-day ultimatum on 10 October to the Principal Director, DoSE, to deploy adequate teachers to the government schools of Tsürangkong range under Mokokchung District.
