Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla visited Dzukou Valley on July 7. The Governor, accompanied by his official delegation, was accorded a traditional welcome at Viswema enroute to Dzukou Valley.
The Governor was received by the Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, B Henok Buchem, NCS, Superintendent of Police, Kohima, Krodi Rhetso, NPS, other officials, office bearers of the Southern Angami Public Organisation (SAPO), and members of the Viswema Village Council.
Following the reception, the Governor proceeded to Dzukou Valley accompanied by the Extra Assistant Commissioner (Kezocha), SDPO South, Medical Officer, police personnel and tourist guides. The district administration and security agencies ensured the smooth and safe conduct of the visit.
Welcoming the Governor, SAPO President, Er Tepul Hopovi, described the Governor’s visit as a symbolic convergence of stewardship and landscape, and of governance and guardianship.
He highlighted Dzukou Valley’s ecological significance, noting that the Southern Angami people have served as its traditional custodians since time immemorial. Emphasising that the valley is a treasured natural heritage of Nagaland, he said that it belongs to all nature lovers and called for a collective effort to protect, preserve and promote its rich biodiversity.

Hopovi further urged that the valley should serve as a model for climate-resilient, community-led conservation, where indigenous knowledge and government initiatives work together to safeguard the environment for future generations. He invited the Governor to experience the valley’s pristine landscape, unpolluted environment and the famed Dzukou Lily, symbolising the unique ecological wealth.
As a mark of respect, SAPO presented the Governor with a traditional memento. The organisation also expressed gratitude to the Government of Nagaland, particularly the Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police and all officials involved, for coordinating and facilitating the successful visit.
