Mobile & Drivers’ Union Noklak celebrates Silver Jubilee

The Mobile & Drivers’ Union Noklak celebrated its Silver Jubilee on Tuesday under the theme “Driving towards Reliability” with Deputy Commissioner Noklak Hiazu Meru as the special guest.

In his address at the momentous occasion, Meru said that drivers play an integral role in the development of the society. He added that transportation is the lifeline of business establishments and urged the vehicle owners and the drivers to carry out their services fairly and responsibly while sustaining their needs too.

Ruing that the high cost of transportation hinders the import of materials to Noklak district, the DC requested the union to charge reasonably, standing by their motto ‘Service to Public’ and to abide by the rules and ethics of the road and the law.

Hiazu Meru, DC Noklak and special guest, released the Jubilee souvenir at the function.

The President of Tuensang District Private Drivers’ Union, Amongba, in his solidarity speech stated that oneness, cooperation and unity should be upheld by the drivers. Amongba lauded the services rendered by them during the Covid-19 pandemic, adding that drivers are indispensable and needed by all sections of the society.

Sub-Inspector of unarmed branch Noklak, Pongom, said that Noklak is able to function because of the Union and its pioneers. He said that every passenger is the responsibility of the driver and therefore urged all drivers to stick by the law and to be disciplined.

Khaoshai, Vice President of Khiamniungan Tribal Council, in a short speech told the union that 25 years was a milestone and advised them to retrospect, correct their past mistakes and improve with this auspicious occasion.

Mobile & Drivers’ Union Noklak Advisor, M Ngou stressed on transparency to be maintained between mobile owners and the drivers.

The Mobile & Drivers’ Union Noklak told Nagaland Tribune that the union was founded in 1997 at the advice of tribal leaders. The union mentioned that initially there were just three jeeps, three mini trucks and three Sumos in the entire Noklak Town. Over the years, the union has evolved and grown, and currently there are 151 vehicles registered with the union.

Earlier at the function held at Model School Noklak, Jubilee greetings were imparted by H Pukho, President of Mobile & Drivers’ Union Noklak while Mono, Church and Mission Secretary, Khiamniungan Churches Association (KBCA) pronounced the prayers. In conclusion, the vote of thanks by given by Okei, Convener, Planning Board and benediction by Thengio, Pastor, Komking Church Noklak. The programme was chaired by Khumo and Chongkoi, Muchum and the Frolic Band entertained the gathering with their presentations.
