Zhothisa Dawhuo, Commissioner & Secretary, in his introductory speech, stated that the TLI Project is the core activity of the Department, supporting various livelihood and skill development programmes. Through TLI, the Department is implementing diverse livelihood activities to uplift women from both rural and urban areas. “The programme aligns with the Government’s “One District, One Product” policy by introducing a “One Village, One Product” approach, encouraging villages to focus on large-scale production of a specific crop, enhancing their capacity to supply locally and export within the state as well as outside,” highlighted Dawhuo. Further, a committee has been set up to oversee the planning, implementation, and monitoring of these activities, including Department officials, three representatives of village women leaders, and one representative each from the Village Council and the Village Youth Organization, informed Dawhuo.

Under this initiative skill development and up-skilling programmes will also be provided to 30 selected women beneficiaries. “To celebrate and promote this initiative, a ‘Garlic Festival’ is proposed to be held in Khonoma Village. A long-term objective of this programme is to set up proper and adequate infrastructure for village women to sustain their activities, including product marketing,” he added.

Meanwhile, Vilone Sakhrie, Director WRD encouraged healthy competition between the beneficiaries which will not only be beneficial for the women but for the whole village.
