The Nagaland Government has broken its silence on Saturday and condemned the issuance of death threat/capital punishment by NSCN-Khango to contractor K. Rülho, the proprietor of KKB Rülho.

In its statement, the State Government also reminded the various national political groups to “refrain from acts which are against the law of the land” and to maintain peace in the state and provide a conducive environment for development and growth of business and individuals.

“The State Government has also taken up the matter with the Chairman of the Ceasefire Monitoring Group/Ceasefire Supervisory Board to ensure that the NSC (Khango) faction and other groups adhere strictly to the ground rules of the ceasefire”, Spokesperson of Nagaland Government and Minister for Power & Parliamentary Affairs, KG Kenye stated.

The statement comes a day after the Angami Youth Organisation (AYO) called for a Public Rally on 6th August 2024 at Kohima in protest against “unabated illegal taxations, harassment, intimidation and death threat to common people’ in the backdrop of the ‘capital punishment’ issued by NSCN-Khango to the contractor from the Angami community.

The State Government informed the Nagaland Police has registered an FIR on the matter under appropriate sections of law. It also highlighted that it in April 2024 it had issued strict directions to Police and District Administration to ensure safety, security of the business community and ensure conducive business environment in the Nagaland. It added that the Government has prioritized instilling confidence in the business community by ensuring that 24×7, communication lines are open for reporting instances of violations of the law.

Various organisations have strongly objected the death threats meted out to the contractor by the NSCN-Khango faction over non payment of tax.

In a clarification statement, the group had claimed that besides not only delaying payment of tax, Rülho had also “inflammatory statements against NSCN/GPRN”. The group had also advised the Angami Youth Organisation not to interfere in “governmental affairs.
