Nagaland Media Press Tour to Mumbai and Aurangabad culminate

The The Press Information Bureau (PIB), Kohima, under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, conducted an eight-day Press Tour to Mumbai and Aurangabad in Maharashtra for mediapersons from Nagaland.

The Media team from Nagaland arrived at Mumbai for Media Press Tour  on October 1 was warmly received by the PIB Mumbai at the  airport giving a traditional welcome. The  team led by Sonikumar Singh, Assistant director, PIB, Kohima along with twelve other media personalls from different media house  had an episodes of exposure to get the overview and  understand Government projects and schemes , and also visited various cultural and historical places. The exposure trip culminated on October 8.

During the media tour , the team paid visit to Mani Bhawan, historical building in Mumbai, closely associated with Mahatma Gandhi’s life and activities, and which testifies his life and legacy, offering insights into India’s freedom struggle. The visit allowed the team to witness museums and exhibits where Gandhi’s personal belongings, photographs, collection of books are displayed. The team also dropped by Wankhede Stadium,  an iconic international cricket stadium , Mumbai which posses  a rich history and impressive features and  is  the home ground of the Mumbai Indians and has hosted numerous high-profile cricket matches, including the 2011 Cricket World Cup Final, where India defeated Sri Lanka.

The second episode of the tour was the visit to the Indian Coast Guard ( ICG) during which a brief on ICG and operation was conducted followed by interaction with the team. The Indian Coast Guard is an Indian Maritime law enforcement and search and rescue agency of Government of India. The team further had a fascinating experience to witness the magnificent Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) which boasts a stunning Gothic Revival architectural style, blending Venetian Gothic and Indo-Saracenic elements. Designed by Frederick William Stevens, its construction began in 1884 and was completed in 1893.

The team also took the previledge to step into the National Museum of Cinema, Mumbai to explore the treasures of exhibits and galleries  which absorbs the journey of over a century of  Indian Cinema.

The trip schedule featured an explore to the  recent foundation laying for “Vadhvan Port,” India’s largest port which marks a significant opportunity for employment, particularly for youth from regions like Nagaland. The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA)  recognized as India’s top-performing port, is well-connected globally, ranking 26th among the world’s top container ports. The Vadhvan Port is projected to be three times larger than JNPA and aims to be among the world’s top ten upon completion.

During the interaction, Unmesh Sharad Wagh, IRS, Chairman of JNPA, emphasized the need for a skilled workforce, projecting around 12 lakh direct and over 1 crore indirect job opportunities expressing  strong desire for youth from Northeast India to engage in the port sector and offered training programs to enhance their skill sets. The PIB Kohima Media Tour aimed to highlight such developments and foster a greater understanding of the socio-economic opportunities available in Maharashtra for the youth of the Northeast.

The team further visited Tata Institute of Fundamental Research ( TIFR), a premier research institute in Mumbai, during which a campus tour including a talk on Olympiads and a session on Waste Management through interactive game developed at the centre was conducted.

The team witnessed captivating experience on the Daulatabad Fort, Panchakki Mill, and Ellora cave in Aurangabad which is UNESCO World Heritage Side dating back to 6th– 10th century back. Later, the team also visited the magnificent Bibi ki Makbara in Aurangabad.

The team also visited the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial University ( MGM) where the Nagaland Media team visited the the Community Radio Station , Paithani Weaving and  various other courses,after which they had fruitful interaction with the administration and authority of the university.  This was followed by a visit to Himroo Weaving which is a traditional textile art from Aurangabad.

The tour concluded with the step in to Auric city which is the future city in Aurangabad with a self sufficient ecosystem designed  to promote a high quality of life.

The main objectives of the media tour was to provide the state media the opportunity to witness various Government of India schemes/projects in Mumbai, gain insights into the socio-economic and cultural aspects of Maharashtra and facilitate interaction among journalists from different regions for better communication and exchange of ideas.
