Manthae C Phom, a doctoral researcher working under the supervision of Dr Tovishe Phucho at the Department of Chemistry, Nagaland University (Lumami), presented her research at the 20th International Biotechnology Symposium and Exhibition (IBS2026) in Japan. Organized under the auspices of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) since 1960, the current symposium was held from June 28 to July 2 at the Kobe International Conference Center in central Japan.

According to a press release issued by the University, Phom’s participation in the global event was supported by a prestigious international travel grant from the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) of the Government of India. Her research notably integrates the fields of chemistry and material science. Bridging the disciplines of molecular chemistry, material science, and applied biotechnology, the symposium covered a wide scope of research fields, including crucial topics focusing on environment, energy, industry, health, and food.

The expansive scientific program featured specialized sessions delving into advanced areas such as synthetic biology, enzyme engineering, and biomedical innovation. Further, the global event provided specialized platforms to present research on diverse organisms, ranging from microorganisms to plants and mammalian cells.
