Nagaland’s Dziesekhrienuo Keretsü makes history as 1st Member of National Road Safety Council from North-East

Kohima: Keretsü appreciates opportunity to contribute to road safety on national scale and champion interests of region

In a significant milestone, Dziesekhrienuo Keretsü from Kohima, Nagaland achieved distinction of being the first representative from Nagaland and the broader North-East Region to secure a position on the prestigious National Road Safety Council. This honour was officially announced through a notification issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), Government of India, and published in the official gazette on 7 August 2023.

Keretsü’s appointment holds immense significance, as she is now part of a select group of eleven nominated members on the National Road Safety Council. Notably, she is the sole woman member among them. Her two-year tenure on the Council places her at the forefront of shaping policies and The National Road Safety Council, under the purview of MoRTH, plays a crucial role in advising and coordinating policies related to road safety. Her responsibilities encompass a wide range of tasks, including formulating and recommending road safety programs for implementation by state road safety organizations and other relevant agencies. Additionally, Keretsü will contribute to identifying areas for research and development aimed at enhancing safety measures within the road transport sector.

The Ministry’s collaboration with the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER) is instrumental in executing the physical verification process of institutes and beneficiaries. This verification process aims to address any discrepancies and ensure the authenticity of the information provided.

Keretsü’s role extends beyond her historic appointment as she has a larger vision of representing Nagaland and the North-East on a national platform. With the state’s improved road connectivity, her focus lies on enhancing all aspects of road safety. From the creation of safe roads to promoting responsible driving and fostering safety awareness, Keretsü’s priorities align with a safer road environment.

In response to her nomination, Keretsü expressed her gratitude to Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for the MoRTH, Government of India. She appreciated the opportunity bestowed upon her to contribute to road safety on a national scale and champion the interests of her region.
