The Wokha Town Council (WTC) has lifted the temporary ban on the sale of pork within its jurisdiction with immediate effect following a review of the prevailing animal disease situation in consultation with the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, Wokha.
In an order issued by WTC Chairperson, W Myingthungo Kikon, the Council stated that the latest directive supersedes its earlier order dated May 26, 2026.
While permitting the sale of pork, the Council has retained strict regulations on the import, export and transportation of live pigs to prevent the spread of infectious animal diseases.

According to the order, the movement of live pigs into Wokha Town will be permitted only from the Amguri, Assam entry point via the Mokokchung route. Every consignment of live pigs must be accompanied by a valid health certificate issued by a registered veterinary officer certifying that the animals are clinically healthy and originate from an African Swine Fever (ASF)-free area.
The Council has directed all butchers, traders and transporters dealing with pigs and pork to strictly comply with the order and extend full cooperation in its implementation.
It further instructed that any signs of illness, suspected infectious diseases or deaths of pigs must be reported immediately to the concerned authorities for necessary action.
The Wokha Town Council warned that any violation of the order would invite appropriate action under the relevant provisions of law.
