Justice (Rtd.) Madan B. Lolur, former Judge, Supreme Court of India, Justice (Rtd.) Ajit P. Shah, former Chief Justice of Delhi High Court and N. Ram, Senior Journalist and former Editor in Chief of The Hindu have extended an invitation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to a public debate with each other on the key issues of this ongoing General Election 2024.

In the invitation, the trio stated that both the BJP and INC have asked important questions during rallies and public addresses, however, the public have heard “only allegations and challenges from either side, and not heard any meaningful responses.”

They pointed out that today’s digital world carries with it a propensity for misinformation, misrepresentation, and manipulation and in these circumstances, it is “fundamentally important to ensure that the public is well educated about all aspects of the debate” so that they can effectively exercise their electoral franchise.

They expressed that “citizens would hugely benefit by hearing directly from our political leaders through a public debate on a non partisan and non commercial platform” and that such a debate would not only educate the public, but also project the true image of a healthy and vibrant democracy.
