The Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) began its two-day celebration of 150 years of Christianity in the state of Nagaland (1872-2022) under the theme ‘His Story’ on 19 November here at NBCC Conventional Centre, Kohima.

On the August event, Rev Dr Zelhou Keyho, NBCC General Secretary, shared the message based on the theme – His Story: Celebrating the Gospel.

“Our story is His own story,” he said.

Keyho took the congregation back to how Christianity began in the state.

He said we must never forget the sacrifices made by the missionaries to venture into the land of barbaric, savage head hunters, despite all warnings, to spread the gospel to people who were then walking in the darkness living under the shadow of death in a corner of India without any identity.

The sacrifices and all the hardships of the pioneers, who with time made the gospel accessible to us should also be remembered, he said.

He reminded the congregation to take responsibility and to tell and retell to oneself, to children and to all generations that will continue to celebrate the legacy of the faith.

Earlier, the salutation was delivered by Rev Dr Rachülie Vihienuo, Co-Chair, Planning Committee, Sesquicentennial Celebration.

The Sesquicentennial Celebration Choir and the Children’s Choir (Bright Morning Star Children’s Home) presented Message through Songs.

Greetings were delivered by Asia Pacific Baptist Federation while the Sesquicentennial Celebration Worship Team led the congregation in Worship through Songs.

On the last day of the celebration, 20 November, the morning service will commence at 9am and the closing service at 4:30pm.

The Sesquicentennial Monolith was dedicated by Rev Dr Zelhou Keyho.
