A Parents’ Seminar, organised by Christian High School (CHS), Noklak, was held today at Longdon Baptist Church, Noklak.
Tsongtin, the headmistress of CHS, told Nagaland Tribune that the seminar was initiated with the motive to enhance coordination between parents and teachers in order to help students develop better in their academic, social and moral life.

K Chongkoi, Development Promoter, Khiamniungan Baptist Churches Association (KBCA) spoke on ‘Understanding children’s development; relationship and communication with teachers’.
Stating that child development occurs in the sequence of physical, mental, emotional, language and thought from birth to adulthood, she emphasised on its importance, ensuring that children are unique in their development. Chongkoi stressed on a healthy relationship to be maintained between students and teachers which she said is the ultimate enhancement for fuller development of students.

She further encouraged the parents and teachers to develop healthy communications for the child’s benefits which result in respect. “To build, develop and educate a child is a share responsibility of both teachers and parents. It is a joint venture of building a person, family, community and society,” she said.
Advocate Pusam spoke on home care and support for the academic progress of a child. She asserted that a child, more than materialistic possession, is the greatest treasure for any parent. She also said prayer is the first step for growth and development of a child.
The advocate advised the parents to deal with their children according to their minds and behaviours. She also stressed on time management to be given and maintained by parents for their children.

Pusam further spoke on the use of social media by children, which she pointed out, impacts them massively. She encouraged the parents to assist their children to expand their mind for educational purposes. Bringing in the dark side of social media, she mentioned that most children isolate and confine themselves under the shelter of social media which results in mental illness and depression, eventually turning into misunderstanding and lack of relationship.
She challenged the parents to be fully responsible and look out for their child’s safety. Exemplifying the incidents of children victimised to cybercrime in the past years, she urged the parents to be aware of the right use of social media.
Sangmong, Administrator, CHS, spoke on social norms which evolves with time, stating that lives in the early days were simple and mostly dependent on labour.
Times have changed and now it is mostly conflict, he said while pointing out that one of the main reasons is misuse of mobile phones.
Sangmong shared his observations on the progress of students over the years and noted that the relationship of the parents is greatly reflected in the child’s behaviour.
He also advised the parents to limit their children from using mobile phones till a certain age. Bringing in the scenario of the present day’s society, he challenged the parents to be mentally upgraded in a positive way.
