The Naga People’s Front (NPF) Mokokchung Division celebrated Moatsü Festival at its office premises on May 1 with Minister for RD & SIRD and Mokokchung district in-charge, Metsubo Jamir, attending the programme as the special guest.
Addressing the gathering, Metsubo called upon party workers to remain united and strong in facing future challenges. Referring to the recent merger between the NDPP and NPF, he said the celebration was significant for the party and described it as “a blessing festival” for the NPF following the merger.
He further urged party leaders and workers to strengthen the party at the grassroots level and stressed the need for mobilisation to further reinforce the organisation. Metsubo also acknowledged the efforts of the organisers and expressed hope that the Moatsü celebration would continue in the coming years.
Moatsü, one of the premier festivals of the Ao Nagas, is celebrated annually after the completion of sowing activities. Traditionally observed to seek blessings for a bountiful harvest, the festival is marked by folk songs, traditional dances, feasting and community gatherings. The festival is generally celebrated from May 1 to 3.

Earlier, the welcome address was delivered by Repameren Yaden, President of NPF Mokokchung Division. Moatsü greetings were also delivered by N. Bendang Jamir, PDA member and Senior Vice President of NPF Central; Lanukaba, Vice President of NPF Central; and Meitiba Lkr, President of NPF 21 Tuli AC.
Special cultural songs were presented by the parent body of NPF Mokokchung Division and the party’s women wing. The programme concluded with a Moatsü feast.
