NSCN-K (YA) yet to consider ceasefire with GoI; reiterates ban of opium

The National Socialist Council of Nagaland-K Yung Aung faction [NSCN-K (YA)] convened a thanksgiving programme and a joint meeting on 13 and 14 December respectively in Lakho Chingnyu village (Eastern Myanmar).

On 14 December, the NSCN-K (YA) held a joint meeting along with Konyak overground underground leaders, West, East Konyak Union and all the civil societies.

At the meeting, Kilonser cum Chairman of Konyak Region, A Khampei Opeiham, acknowledged that the peace process and ceasefire matters had been forwarded to the high-level authority for discussion.

The joint meeting was convened with the sole purpose to ban drug powder, Sunflower and Kani (Opium) cultivation.

After a thorough discussion, the NSCN notified that the Students Union, Village Council, Baptist Church Association and Youth Organisation hold full responsible and authority for operating and checking powers.

During the joint meeting, farmers who had already cultivated opium were asked to harvest by September 2023 but following that are restricted to sow seed again.

However, drugs and Sunflower drug users and sellers were given the month of December to stop themselves from using/selling the substances. Thereby, they were notified that by 1 January 2023, defaulters and sellers of drugs and Sunflower drug would have to face capital punishment without mercy or a second chance.

On the previous day, 13 December, the NSCN-K (YA), under the leadership of A Khampei Opeiham, held a thanksgiving programme for Home Kilonser appointment of Neiton Konyak, NSCN/GPRN.
