The District Planning and Development Boards (DPDB) of Peren and Mokokchung convened their monthly meetings on June 6 and June 5, 2025, respectively, addressing key developmental agendas while aligning with the theme of environmental responsibility.

Peren DPDB

The DPDB meeting of Peren District was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall under the chairmanship of TR Zeliang, Deputy Chief Minister and Chairman of DPDB Peren. The meeting began with a welcome note by DC Hiazu Meru, who also introduced new members: Rongsenmenla Jamir, NCS (Project Director, DRDA), Dr T Jamedi Longkumer (Principal, Peren Government College), and L. Imlinnungba Lkr (Superintendent, District Jail).

In his address, TR Zeliang lauded the enthusiastic participation of departmental officers and staff in the recent plantation drive. He stressed the importance of proper maintenance over quantity and suggested that the number of trees planted be manageable to ensure survival and growth.

He also emphasized identifying suitable periods for plantation activities and urged departments implementing Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS) to coordinate closely with the District Planning Officer for effective implementation and transformation of the district.

The house reviewed previous meeting minutes, during which DC Meru informed that mass social work would be organized every fourth Friday at the DC Office Complex, requesting active participation from departments.

A key agenda item—a pilot Public-Private Partnership (PPP) project at GHS Nsong—was presented by Dr Fr Francis, Principal of St Xavier College, Jalukie. After a discussion, the board approved the proposal for forwarding to the Government.

Meanwhile, a proposal for the registration of the Rural Upliftment Society, Tening Town, was deferred to the next meeting due to the absence of verifying officers and society representatives.

An official from the Labour Department delivered a detailed PowerPoint presentation on the department’s activities, which was well received. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks by DC and Vice Chairman Hiazu Meru.

Mokokchung DPDB

The Mokokchung DPDB met on June 5 at the DC’s Conference Hall, chaired by MLA Nuklutoshi, with TN Mannen (IAS Retd.), Advisor for Law & Justice and Land Revenue, also in attendance.

In line with World Environment Day, the chairman called for a strategic roadmap to make Mokokchung a plastic-free town, urging the district administration and departments to work in unison. Supporting the initiative, DC Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS, noted that collective efforts from all stakeholders would be key to success. He also informed the board that six water dispensers, donated by the chairman, would be installed across town to reduce the use of single-use plastics.

The board approved the provisional recognition of Little Friends Montessori Pre-School, Tzusapang Sector, and forwarded the proposal for government approval.

Advisor TN Mannen, while speaking on World Environment Day observance, stressed the importance of conserving biodiversity, flora, and fauna in the district. He called for strict enforcement of bans on hunting and chemical/explosive-based fishing to protect wildlife.

DC Verma, in his closing remarks, urged all members to ensure regular attendance at DPDB meetings to facilitate thorough discussions and collaborative development. The board also extended a warm welcome to Atsung Walling, the newly posted Additional Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung.
