The Razeba Youth Society (RYS) 22nd Annual Games and Sports Meet was inaugurated today by Vevoyi W D Vadeo, president of Chakhesang Youth Organization Kohima (CYOK), in Razeba town of Phek district.

Vadeo, in his address, maintained that society is undergoing a transitional period of social responsibility from elders to the younger generation and stated that the youth have to engage in a formal socio-political and development process so as to formulate policies in securing a future.

We cannot attain and create a sustainable society, unless we invest in youth. Investing in the youth will ensure better prospects for their own lives and for our area’s development. On the other hand, if we fail to make these investments now, we will further entrench poverty and ignorance for generations to come, said the CYOK president.

He made an observation that Razeba range people are doing well on human resource and economic development, particularly on self-sustenance/self-employment and self-sufficiency, and yet “comparatively Razeba range is lagging behind others even within our constituency (17th Chizami AC) on infrastructural development aspect particularly the road.”

Vadeo, however, told the people not to blame each other but stand up as one to deliver to the people what is needed.

He expressed concern that if assembly delimitation exercise is conducted in Nagaland, the 17th Chizami A/C should remain as it is because it will adversely affect not only the constituency but the entire Chakhesang community with fragmentation and will cost the integrity and unity of the Chakhesang community. “Unity is our weapon and strength to stand together,” said Vadeo.

Reiterating his commitment to serve the people by contesting in the forthcoming Assembly Election, he also sought the support and prayer of the people while assuring them that he would stand with them through thick and thin for the welfare and wellbeing of the people.

Vadeo also pointed out that there are numerous athletes who have changed their lives and became rich and famous by simply by engaging in the activities that they once considered being their hobbies.

He further said there is a difference between playing physically and playing with one’s mind and heart. He advised the youths to participate in the Sports Meet with passion, play within oneself and play like a champion, leveraging their skills to reach the national and international level.

Earlier, in the programme chaired by Edel Krocha, the presidential address was delivered by Rokovi Zholia, president RYS. A special song was presented by Rhangoane Domeh and friends while a prayer was pronounced by Muzhuh Krocha, Catechist of St Ignatius Church Razeba.

The Sports Meet will culminate on 10 December with teams competing in various athletic activities and games.
