SAPO to lift restrictions on Mao community after 95 days

The Southern Angami Public Organisation will lift its restriction of movement for people from Mao community in its region from Tuesday, a statement from the organisation announced.

The ban was imposed from the midnight of 15 December 2022 over the disputed Kezoltsa land.

SAPO stated that the decision to lift the ban was taken on the advice of Angami Public Organisation (APO), who will now ‘take over the contentious SAPO matter at hand’. It reiterated its hope to resolve the land dispute traditionally.

The restriction was placed ‘to protest the unfair occupation of Manipur Government’s Armed Forces and imposing CrPC 144 within the heart of Kezoltsa’, it added.

Further, SAPO appreciated Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio’s concern over the issue and reiterated that its agenda was not to redraw the boundary between Nagaland and Manipur.
