School Education Department bids farewell to Mhathung Tungoe

A farewell programme in honour of Secretary, School Education Department, Mhathung Tungoe was held at the Secretariat Conference Hall, Nagaland Civil Secretariat, Kohima on May 29.

Advisor for School Education and SCERT, Dr Kekhrielhoulie Yhome speaking at the farewell program described the retiring officer as a mature, experienced and dedicated officer who has contributed significantly to the department during a crucial period.

Dr Yhome remarked that although Tungoe served in the department for a relatively short duration, his contributions in handling important policy matters, institutional reforms, and administrative responsibilities were highly appreciated. He noted that the department underwent several critical developments during his tenure, particularly in the areas of educational reforms and policy implementation.

Recalling his personal interactions with Tungoe, Yhome described him as a sincere and humble person with a deep love for nature and gardening. He shared that the retiring officer was known for carefully nurturing plants and flowers, reflecting his calm and thoughtful personality.

He also acknowledged the challenges faced by the School Education Department and expressed gratitude to officers like Tungoe who willingly served and contributed despite the demanding nature of the department.

Dr Yhome further remarked that retirement should not be viewed as the end of service, but as the beginning of another meaningful phase of life where one can continue contributing to society and community.

Wishing him good health and happiness, Dr Yhome encouraged Tungoe to enjoy his post-retirement life while continuing to share his experience and wisdom with others.

Speaking at the programme,  Shashank Pratap Singh, Principal Director, School Education, described Tungoe’s retirement as a recognition of his sincere and dedicated service to the Government of Nagaland after serving for nearly 33 years since joining government service in 1993.

Singh recalled that although Tungoe served in the department for a relatively short period, he made significant contributions through his leadership, guidance, and involvement in important departmental matters. He also appreciated the retiring officer for remaining actively committed to his responsibilities till his final days in office.

Describing him as a cheerful and approachable person, Singh highlighted Tungoe’s friendly nature, sense of humour, and love for nature and gardening. He further wished him good health and success in his future endeavours and encouraged him to continue contributing to society and the community after retirement.

Delivering his farewell address, Secretary, School Education, Mhathung Tungoe expressed gratitude to the officers and staff of the department for their support, cooperation, and friendship during his tenure.

Tungoe thanked God for guiding him throughout his service and acknowledged the constant support of his wife and children. Reflecting on his experience in the School Education Department, he described it as both challenging and enriching. He shared that upon joining the department, many of the responsibilities and policy matters were new to him, but with the assistance and cooperation of officers and staff at all levels, he was able to carry out his duties effectively.

Tungoe remarked that one of the most remarkable qualities of the School Education Department was the strong sense of unity and teamwork among the officers and staff. He noted that despite the demanding nature of the department, everyone worked together with dedication and sincerity for the welfare of students and the improvement of education in the state.

Expressing appreciation to the senior officers and colleagues, he said the cooperation extended to him helped in implementing important policies and reforms successfully. He also acknowledged the contributions made by teachers and staff members across the state who continued to work tirelessly despite various challenges.

Describing the department as one big family, Tungoe said he was deeply touched by the warmth, kindness, and professionalism shown by everyone during his tenure. He encouraged the officers and staff to continue working with commitment, mutual understanding, and unity for the progress of the department.
