The second edition of the Interschool Volleyball League 2026 was inaugurated at the Public Ground, Wokha on June 6. The event was organized by the Department of Youth Resources & Sports in collaboration with the Wokha District Volleyball Association.
Special Guest, Director of Youth Resources & Sports, Government of Nagaland, Kethosituo Sekhose, NCS, in his address highlighted the government’s commitment to promoting sports at every level. He spoke on the opportunities available within the state, the level of competition both inside and outside Nagaland, and the potential of youth to represent the nation in international sports.
He emphasized the government’s efforts to enhance and improve sports infrastructure, while underlining the values of unity, purpose, friendship, and discipline through sports. He also encouraged parents to witness their children’s games, stressing the importance of time management and balance in youth development across studies, sports, and career.

Sekhose further acknowledged initiatives such as TaFMA for promoting arts and appreciated the Lotha Youth Hoho’s anti-drug movement, which he said would bear good fruits for a healthier environment among youth.
The welcome address was delivered by Assistant General Secretary, Wokha District Volleyball Association, Nzanbemo Lapon, who noted that compared to last year, this edition is better equipped and expected to witness improved performances, with equal opportunities for both boys and girls.
DYRO Wokha, Libemo Jami, in his greetings message, highlighted the need for inclusivity in sports, pointing out that volleyball had previously been male dominated but is now witnessing greater participation from girls. He also stressed the importance of enhancing sports infrastructure and noted the limited representation of Wokha players in state-level Olympics.
The oath was administered by Yanpothing Ezung. Altogether, nine schools participated in the league, with six schools competing in the girls’ category, bringing together over 180 players.
