Southern Angami 2nd Open Naga wrestling Championship held

The Southern Angami 2nd Open Naga wrestling Championship organised by Jordan group  was held at the  Multi purpose hall, Tewetso-ozwü, John Govt.Higher Secondary School in Viswema village.

Special Guest MLA Dr. Tseilhoutuo Ato Rhutso, in his speech, emphasized that wrestling serves as a powerful platform for fostering friendship, bonding, and harmony within the community. He commended Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio for his vision of promoting wrestling across the entire state, advocating for district-wise participation rather than allowing tribal divisions to hinder progress. Dr. Rhutso expressed his belief that such an approach will elevate the sport to new heights, providing wrestlers with the opportunity to pursue it as a professional and financially rewarding career.

Dr. Rhutso highlighted the potential for Naga wrestling to gain international recognition if organized through structured categories. He stressed the importance of developing a system that encourages competition based on categories, which could pave the way for the sport’s global appeal.

He also acknowledged the significant investments in sports facilities across the state and urged for their proper maintenance to ensure long-term benefits. Encouraging everyone to preserve the tradition of wrestling, he stated that whether one wins or loses, the experience gained can be passed down to younger generations, ensuring the continuity of this cherished sport.

In his address, the MLA advised aspiring athletes to carefully choose their path in sports, focusing on their strengths and giving their best effort. He also  concluded by expressing his willingness to support anyone in need, offering his assistance and an open heart to those seeking guidance.

For the senior category, the champion Atuo Thevo  walked away with Rs. 80,000, while the 1st runners up was bagged by Neithongulie Kuotsu who won Rs.60,000, 2nd runners up by Visakhol Mekro winning a cash prize of Rs.40,000. The third runner up was awarded to Kevime Vitsu who bagged Rs.20,000. The 5th quarter finalists Kelengol Rhetso,Mhaneikholie Kuotsu, Savio Sachü, Kelengol Kikhi were awarded Rs.5000 each.

In the Junior Category, Vidil Sachü was the Champion (Rs.20,000), 1st runner up Viketol Thol (Rs.15,000), 2nd runners up went to Visweyie Rote (Rs. 10,000) and 3rd runners up was earned by  Meyiekhoto Virha (Rs.5000).

All prize money was distributed in the form of coins, symbolizing the dedication and effort invested to win. The weight of each coin represented the magnitude of their success, as well as the value and significance of the hard work they had accomplished.

Neisapi Pucho, President Jordan Group chaired the program while Saphrul Pucho, Pastor VBC blessed the program with an invocation. Nothul Pucho and Vileto Kennao earlier presented a War cry (Meki). Keselvi Mekro earlier  lead the oath taking and Kezhocho Mekro declared the vote of thanks.
