Deputy Chief Minister of Nagaland, T.R. Zeliang, urged communities to strengthen political ties and foster unity across party lines during his address at the Süngratsü Green Moatsümong, which coincided with the inauguration of the Dr. Imtiwapang Aier Sports Complex on May 3 at Yimchalu.
In his speech, Zeliang stated that cultural platforms like Moatsümong should evolve into opportunities for political dialogue and reconciliation, beyond their traditional role of social celebration. He encouraged participants to use the festive gathering as a moment for rebuilding political friendships, particularly at the district and state levels.
The Deputy CM paid tribute to the late Dr. Imtiwapang Aier, a former Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly and a respected public figure. He noted that dedicating the sports complex in Aier’s name was a fitting gesture to honor his contributions to Nagaland’s political landscape. Zeliang, who is also Aier’s brother-in-law, thanked the village for the thoughtful tribute.
Highlighting the Ao community’s rich heritage, Zeliang commended the organizers for hosting the festival in an environmentally conscious manner. He praised the people of Süngratsü for blending cultural celebration with civic awareness and community development.
More significantly, he emphasized that unity within communities and between political leaders is essential for long-term growth. He expressed hope that the Süngratsü Green Moatsümong would inspire similar efforts in other regions to promote peace, collaboration, and inclusive progress.
Zeliang concluded by encouraging all communities to preserve their culture while working toward stronger political and social cohesion.
