TSU Platinum Jubilee ends with Tsütuonuomia Khel Day celebration; Metha urges community think for Kohima city’s future

Kohima: KVC Chairman warns against becoming economic refugees in one’s own land

The Tsütuonuomia Khel Day cum Culmination of T. Khel Students Union’s Platinum Jubilee was celebrated on 25th October 2024 at Mission Compound, Kohima Village. The event was graced by Advisor to the Chief Minister and Chairman of IDAN, Abu Metha and Kohima Town MLA Dr Tsielhoutuo Rhutso.

Speaking on the occasion, Metha highlighted on the historical importance of Kohima and urged the community to think about the city’s future while underscoring the necessity for a strategic plan that benefits children and allows them to give back to their community. Metha called for unity, asserting that Kohima should attract the best minds and promote peace while aiming for sustainable development that draws global interest.

In his remarks, MLA Dr Tsielhoutuo Rhutso emphasized the crucial role of education in achieving success, both academically and in character development. He encouraged the youth to be humble and hardworking to counter the stereotype of “unemployed youths” and to set goals that would enable them to create job opportunities for others.

Chairman, Kohima Village Council, Helievio Solo warned against becoming economic refugees in one’s own land, highlighting the risks posed by illegal immigration. He called for vigilance in protecting local businesses, pointing out that the community often supports illegal immigrants through trade licenses and shelter.

He noted that illegal immigrants have come to dominate more than half of the local market but underscored the need to seize business opportunities and take proactive measures before it is too late.

The KVC Chairman also stressed the importance of upholding ancestral values and passing these principles on to future generations, acknowledging that citizens also bear responsibility for issues like corruption.

T. Khel Council Chairman Neibou Sekhose shared insights on the vision, mission, and achievements of the Khel during the event.

The program commenced with a welcome address from TSU President Mhasisetuo Solo, who provided the enrollment statistics of students from T. Khel as per which:

48,011 students in grades 10 and below; 139 in grade 12; 216 undergraduates; 60 postgraduates; 8 pursuing MBBS; and 4 in PhD programs.

The event was blessed with an invocation by Pastor Atuo Whuorie of the Baptist Mission Church, Kohima.
