Ungma and Tuophema renew bond of friendship; declaration adopted at silver jubilee friendship meet

A joint declaration re-strengthening the 25-year friendship between Ungma village under Mokokchung district and Tuophema village under Kohima district was adopted on May 1 during the second Friendship Meet held as part of the silver jubilee celebration of Rüna Khrietho–Maong Aksü at Naro Tekong Tourist Centre, Ungma village.

The declaration, titled “Tuophema & Ungma Declaration,” was adopted by the Soyim Students’ Union (SSU) and the Tuophema Village Youth & Sports Organisation (TVYSO) in the presence of elders, village leaders and members of both communities.

It stated that the declaration marked 25 years of enduring friendship between the two villages and acknowledged the “foresight, wisdom and goodwill” of the predecessors who laid the foundation of the relationship in 2001.

Affirming that unity amidst diversity forms the basis of harmonious coexistence and collective advancement, the declaration recognised mutual respect, cooperation and shared aspirations as essential to sustaining the bond between the two communities.

Through the declaration, both villages resolved to preserve, strengthen and advance the friendship through continued collaboration and mutual understanding.

The declaration outlined several commitments, including upholding friendship, unity and mutual respect between the communities and promoting collaboration in social, cultural, educational and community-oriented activities for the common good.

It further resolved to encourage meaningful dialogue and intellectual exchange, cultivate enduring institutional relationships beyond generational boundaries, and preserve the legacy of friendship handed down by their forefathers.

Both communities also pledged to promote inclusivity, cultural understanding and respect for diversity while ensuring the continuity of the partnership through regular engagement, structured initiatives and shared commitments.

The declaration additionally emphasised solidarity during times of need and encouraged youth empowerment through leadership development, education and capacity-building initiatives.

The two villages further resolved to work towards the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage, traditions and values, while jointly striving for peace, harmony and cooperative progress in addressing shared challenges and commitment to remain guided by the principles of goodwill, integrity and fraternity in all engagements.

The declaration made solemn testament to the enduring friendship, unity of purpose and collective commitment of both communities towards a harmonious and prosperous future.

The declaration was signed by representatives of the Soyim Students’ Union led by its president Talionen Longkumer and representatives of the Tuophema Village Youth & Sports Organisation led by its president Vikeduo Seyie.
