The United Colony Council, Dimapur, has resolved that shopkeepers and business owners within the colony shall not associate with any business union, association, committee or other business-related organisation operating within the colony.

The decision was taken unanimously at an emergency meeting convened by the Colony Council on August 31 with shop owners and landlords of the colony.

According to the Council, the latest resolution is a continuation of its earlier standing resolution as well as a resolution adopted at the Colony General Body Meeting.

While acknowledging that organisations are generally formed with good intentions and with the objective of serving the community, the Council said the mushrooming of unions and associations in Nagaland has attracted considerable criticism from the public, business community and legislators.

The Council said the resolution was adopted in the larger interest of the public and the business community and would remain in force until it is permitted or amended by the competent authorities and through a resolution of the General Body of the United Colony Council.
