Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil) Mon, Ajit Kumar, IAS, informed on the usage of appropriate Terminology for Person with Disabilities to communications and documents as directed from the Officer of the Commissioner, Nagaland.

In this regard, all the Administrative Officers under Mon district, all Head of Departments/Offices Mon, Nagaland, The President, Konyak Union/ Konyak Nyupuh Sheko Khong/ KonyakStudents’ Union Mon, Nagaland are requested to peruse the matter and ensure compliance as per the directives of the Government in usage of appropriate and respectful terminology while addressing to persons with disabilities in all official communications and documents as under:-

1. “Divyangjan, Divyangta, Divyang” should replace the terms “Viklang, Viklangta”
2. “Persons with Disability” should be used in place of “Disabled”
3. “Intellectual Disability” instead of “Mental Retardation”
4. “Hearing Impaired” instead of “Deaf and Dumb”
