The President of The United States of America, Joe Biden, has reiterated that there is no place for any form of violence in the country and that unity is the most elusive of goals right now. “We can’t allow this violence to be normalized”, Biden said in his address to the nation after the assassination attempt on former president Donald Trump during a campaign rally at Pennsylvania.
Earlier, the FBI announced that the shooter who was later “neutralized” had been identified as identified Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. “This remains an active and ongoing investigation,” the FBI said in a statement.
The US President, in his address, mentioned that the law enforcement agencies were investigating the motive of the shooter, his opinions, affiliations and whether he had help or support or if he communicated with anyone else.
Biden also said that the “political rhetoric in this country has gotten very heated” in the aftermath of the attack and stated that “It’s time to cool it down.” While acknowledging that the stakes in this election are enormously high, he reminded, “The power to change America should always rest in the hands of the people, not in the hands of a would-be assassin.”
“Yesterday’s shooting at Donald Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania calls on all of us to take a step back, take stock of where we are, how we go forward from here”, the US President said.
