World AIDS Day was observed in Zunheboto Town at Auditorium Hall, Nagaland University on 1 December.
The programme was organised by NSS Cell Nagaland University in collaboration with District AIDS Prevention and Control Unit & NZP+.
The program was chaired by Dr Lobeno Mozhui.
A short address was given by Prof Jagadish K Patnaik, Vice-Chancellor, Nagaland University, during which he shared about the HIV prevalence rate and said Mizoram State stands first followed by Nagaland in the highest prevalence rate.
Stating that sex education should be taught to all age groups, Prof Patnaik emphasised on proper sex and moral education to be given in schools, colleges and Sunday schools. He further emphasised on the Morung (dormitory) culture and said it should be revised if possible.

The Vice-Chancellor also said love, care and sympathy should be shown towards people living with HIV/AIDS. He stressed that stigmatization and discrimination towards people living with HIV/AIDS should be stopped, and pressed on the message to spread sex education and awareness on HIV/AIDS in society.
Hokishe Chophy, DPO DAPCU Zunheboto, spoke on the significance of World AIDS Day and shared the data of the state as well as the district.
Kalito Sumi, President NZP+, shared her experiences in a message titled ‘Positive Voice’ during which she pointed out that ART drug had improved her health and she is living a healthy life. She said she had a community and has set up a community office NZP+ through which the members have been encouraging each other.
At the end of the programme, Prof Bendang Ao, Head & Coordinator NSS Cell, Nagaland University, delivered the vote of thanks.
