29,973 BLC beneficiaries across 32 statutary towns in Nagaland: PMAY-U Nagaland Coffee table book released

A Coffee Table Book showcasing the journey of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana ( PMAY) – Urban Nagaland was released on May 16 by Zhaleo Rio ( Rtd. IAS ) Advisor, Urban Development & Municipal Affairs at Banquet Hall, Hotel Vivor, Kohima .

Providing a brief introduction on the PMAY mission implemented by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Advisor Zhaleo Rio informed that under the mission the State Government Of Nagaland has sanctioned for 29,973 dwelling. “The State’s achievement upto date is 27,806 dwelling units coming upto 93 percent. If Northeastern States are taken into consideration, over all scenario, Nagaland state has also achieved in the highest manner,” said Rio.

Launched in the year 2015 till the period of 2022, the mission has has been extended recently to 2025. The Advisor mentioned that the program is to provide housing to the economically weaker section of low income groups. He also informed that the remaining dwelling units are either in the foundation level or window level while a few percentage is yet to begin.

Rio noted that the release of the Coffee table book is a testament for which the State is very proud of and congratulated the stakeholders starting from state level, the present Chief secretary, Department of Municipal Affairs headed by its successive secretaries,  HODs, officers and the Urban Local Bodies.

“1.5 lakh individual land construction scheme through subsidy or credit linkage has been used remarkably by the beneficiaries to build affordable housing units. With the progress in PMAY Urban Housing for All Mission 1, the Department will be entering PMAY Housing Mission 2,” stated Rio. He also mentioned that the Department has already covered about 32 statutory townships while the remaining seven townships will be in the pipeline.  Zhaleo Rio expressed optimism that the Department will be able to cover another 10, 000 dwellings units and that the Department and officers will implement the remaining targets.

In his speech, Kekhrievor Kevichusa, IPOS, Commissioner & Secretary to the Government of Nagaland informed that the coffee table book tries to capture the success stories that have emerged through the implementation of the scheme.

Kevichüsa also congratulated the team led by Temjenrenla Kechú, Joint Director who is also the HoD. He highlighted that the coffee table book is an expression of the success that has been achieved. Kevichüsa also reminded that the Department is implementing the urban part of PMAY while the rural part is implemented by the RD delegation.

The program was chaired by Kekhrievor Kevichusa, IPoS,  Commissioner & Secretary, Municipal Affairs Department & UDD while the invocation was pronounced by Rev. Dr. Kevichalie Metha, Pastor, Peraciezie Baptist Church, Kohima. A slide show on the completed houses of the 32 ULBs& Beneficiary Video Testimonial under PMAY-(U) was also presented.

ABOUT THE MISSION :

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban, a flagship Mission of Government of India being implemented by Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), was launched on 25th June 2015. The Mission addresses urban housing shortage among the EWS/LIG categories largely and also the MIG by Credit Linked Subsidy by ensuring a pucca house to all eligible urban households by the year 2022, when Nation completes 75 years of its Independence. The Municipal Affairs Department is the State Level Nodal Agency (SLNA) for implementing this Mission Scheme in the State and covers 32 statutory towns. The Ministry has approved 32 Housing for All Plan of Action (HFAPoA) and 72 Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for Beneficiary Led Construction projects both New House Construction and Enhancement during various Central Sanctioning & Monitoring Committee (CSMC) meetings. Under this Mission, the State is implementing the Beneficiary Led Construction Scheme (BLC) covering 29,973 beneficiaries across 32 statutary towns in the State.
