Border Area Programme held at Dan ITC public ground

The Border Area Programme (Indo-Myanmar Border) was organized at the Public Ground, Dan ITC, by the North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC), Dimapur, under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, in collaboration with the Department of Art & Culture, Government of Nagaland.

Speaking at the programme, Khiamniungan Tribal Council (KTC) President L Ngon  emphasized the diversity of India, stating that despite belonging to different states, tribes, cultures, and traditions, people remain united as one nation.

He said that the Northeast itself reflects the beauty of diversity, where different identities represent unique ways of life. Ngon stated that the  cultural differences should not divide people but instead strengthen unity and mutual understanding among communities.

Deputy Director and Nodal Officer of the Department of Art & Culture, Government of Nagaland, Teisovikuolie Therie, in his address, said that the event celebrates the rich cultural heritage and shared community life of people living along the Indo-Myanmar border. He noted that communities in the region share deep historical and cultural bonds that transcend boundaries. He added that the programme serves as a testament to the collective desire of the people to preserve and showcase their unique heritage.

Therie also highlighted that the Indo-Myanmar border region is home to diverse ethnic groups, including Nagas, Kukis, and Mizos, who share many cultural practices and traditions. He stated that such initiatives help promote economic growth, strengthen integrity, and foster a sense of belonging among border communities. Further, he acknowledged the challenges faced by border residents, including issues related to border fencing that affect their livelihoods, and emphasized the need to address these concerns.

The programme also featured vibrant cultural performances by various groups: New Pangsha Pou Hoi; New Pangsha Women Cultural Club; Tai Education Initiative, Mariani, Jorhat; Old Pangsha Pou Hoi; Old Pangsha Women Cultural Club; and Tai Education Initiative, Mariani, Jorhat.

The cultural performances showcased the rich traditions and heritage of communities living along the Indo-Myanmar border.
