The Lotha Hoho (LH), the apex body of the Lotha community, has expressed strong displeasure over the prolonged irregular power supply and near-total blackout that has affected Wokha district for more than six consecutive days, severely disrupting normal life.
In a statement, the Hoho said that while certain pockets of Wokha town experienced limited and partial electricity supply, the district as a whole was plunged into darkness, causing immense hardship to residents. The extended outage has particularly affected students, small businesses, and daily economic activities across the district.
The LH pointed out that the district is equipped with a double feeder transmission system—one at Sanis and another at Wokha town—designed to provide alternative supply during breakdowns or transformer failures. Despite this provision, the district continued to face a prolonged blackout, raising serious concerns over the efficiency and preparedness of the Power Department.
The situation has been further aggravated by the ongoing water crisis in Wokha town headquarters, where there has been no proper water supply for over two and a half months. The Hoho noted that the power outage rendered submersible pumps non-functional, worsening the already critical situation and leaving residents to struggle for basic necessities.
Expressing concern over the repeated failures in power supply management, the Lotha Hoho emphasized that such prolonged disruptions are unacceptable, especially considering the presence of the Doyang Hydro Electric Project within the district, which generates 75 MW of electricity.
The Hoho further highlighted that Wokha ranks among the top districts in Nagaland in terms of revenue collection from both commercial and domestic electricity consumers, and therefore deserves reliable and uninterrupted power supply.

In this regard, the Lotha Hoho placed a series of demands before the Power Department. It asserted that Wokha district must not be subjected to such extended blackouts in the future and called for immediate measures to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply.
The Hoho also urged the department to maintain adequate standby transformers to enable swift replacement in the event of technical failures, thereby preventing prolonged outages.
Calling for accountability and prompt action, the Lotha Hoho stressed that the recurring power issues are gravely affecting the lives and livelihoods of the people. It urged the authorities to take immediate corrective steps and put in place a robust mechanism to prevent recurrence of such disruptions in the future.
It further appealed to the concerned department to prioritize the needs of the public and restore normalcy at the earliest.
