The Department of Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection organized a consumer Rights awareness programme on the theme “Accurate Measurement, Safe Product – Confident Consumers” at Khelhoshe Polytechnic, Atoizu, Zunheboto on May 12.
Speaking at the programme, Assistant Controller of Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection, Zunheboto, Khevishe Z Zhimomi emphasized that accurate measurement is essential for ensuring transparency, fairness, and trust between consumers and traders. He stated that traders and manufacturers are expected to comply with the provisions of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009 and related rules.
Resource person, Retainer Lawyer of ZDLSA, Easter H. Yepthomi spoke on the Consumer Protection Act, 2019. She highlighted that the Act came into force on July 20, 2020, with the objective of addressing emerging challenges faced by consumers in the digital era and ensuring timely and effective redressal of disputes.

She also spoke on deficiency in service and informed participants that cases related to medical negligence can also be filed before the redressal commission for justice. Encouraging the gathering to become conscious and informed consumers, she stressed the importance of consumer rights and awareness.
The programme was chaired by Er Khruvelu, HoD of the Civil Engineering Department, while the concluding remarks were delivered by Jandeno Jami.
Consumer awareness programme at Pfutsero on May 15
The Department of Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection, Phek in collaboration with Chakhesang Mission Higher Secondary School, T Chikri, Pfutsero will be organising a one-day Consumer Awareness Programme on of May 15 at Baptist School, Pfutsero at 11 a.m. and Chakhesang Misson Higher Secondary School T Chihri at 1 p.m.
