The Urban Local Body by-elections in Chümoukedima, Wokha and Atoizu concluded peacefully on Tuesday, with election authorities reporting smooth polling, strong voter participation and no major untoward incidents despite minor disturbances in Wokha.
The bye-election to Ward No. 11 of the Chümoukedima Town Council (CTC) was conducted peacefully with an overall voter turnout of 83.60 percent recorded at the close of polling.
Returning Officer and Additional Deputy Commissioner, Chümoukedima, T Lemlila Sangtam, NCS, expressed appreciation to the political parties, voters and all officials involved for their support in ensuring the successful conduct of the bye-election. She stated that the democratic principle of “one person, one vote” was strictly upheld throughout the polling process, from the commencement of voting until its conclusion.
She further thanked all polling personnel, security forces, political parties and voters for their cooperation and contribution in making the bye-election a successful and peaceful exercise of democracy.

Voters queue to cast their votes during bye-election for Ward No. 8 of Wokha Town Council
The Urban Local Body (ULB) by‑election for Ward No. 8, Tsumang B Colony under Wokha Town Council, was conducted across two polling stations, which saw a voter turnout stood at 69.37 percent.

The by‑election was necessitated to fill the vacancy created following the death of Wokha Town Council Chairperson, late Khozamo Murry, in December 2025. Two candidates contested the seat, Mhomo Humtsoe on a BJP ticket and Aling Lotha representing the NPF.
According to a DIPR update, while disturbances and problems arose during the voting process from both the parties, the District Administration under Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Wokha, K Mhathung Tsanglao, tightened security measures and imposed Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023. The situation was brought under control, ensuring the voting process continued smoothly until completion.
Advisor & DPDB Chairman, Mhathung Yanthan, accompanied by MLA Mhonbemo Humtsoe, also visited the polling stations to oversee the conduct of the election.

Bye-election to Ward No. 9 of the Atoizu Town Council
Meanwhile, the bye-election to Ward No. 9 (Samba Ghoki) of the Atoizu Town Council was conducted successfully. The election witnessed a straight contest between G Shikavi Kiba of the Nagaland People’s Front (NPF) and independent candidate Inaka Z Chishi. Polling concluded without any untoward incident, and election officials reported smooth conduct of the poll.
