The Angami Catholic Youth Association (ACYA) of St Francis de Sales (SFS) Parish Kohima Town, organised a one-day sports meet here on Saturday on the theme “Competing for God’s Glory” — 1 Corinthians 10:31.
The meet featured basketball — 3×3, free throw and three-point contest — along with futsal, arm wrestling, tug of war, relay race and obstacle race.
Petekhriezo Francis, catechist of SFS Parish, who graced the occasion as guest, called on the youth to play with sportsmanship and mutual respect. He said the competition should be “for God’s glory and not for fame or name.”
Referring to the ongoing FIFA World Cup, Francis pointed out how Catholic footballers live out their faith by making the Sign of the Cross while entering the field, during goal scoring or after matches.
“Let God be the first and the last. In every profession, there is a way to glorify God,” he said, before hoisting the ACYA SFS flag to declare the event open.
