The Amahator Range Student’s Union (ARSU) 27th General Session concluded on 6 January with Kipili Sangtam, former minister, Government of Nagaland, as the Cultural Guest.

The General Session was held under the theme ‘Embracing change and transformation’ from 4 to 6 January in Old Resethsi village, Kiphire.

In his speech, cultural guest Kipili Sangtam encouraged the students to make books their best friend, stating “you cannot do anything without education”.

One should work hard and be committed in truth, have vision and live, he stressed.

Sharing his experience of foreign trips, he said that he came across one museum where the history of well-known personalities is preserved in the history book and challenged the student community to work hard “if we want our history to be written even when we leave this earth”.

He also said if one doesn’t know God, he/she will not prosper in life.

Sangtam lauded the ARSU office bearers and encouraged them to bring some new little changes to take the student community and the Nagas forward.

He further felicitated the GB’s, men’s folk-dance group, women’s group and VGs among others and also gave his respect to the eldest man and woman of Old Resethsi village, the host village.

The Head GB of Kisetong village, L Chumpise, shared about the beginning of ARSU and its nomenclature. Giving laurels to the founders and former workers, he reminded the student community to remember the former and their dedication, sweat and tears towards ARSU.

The meaning of ARSU anthem will come to light only when one lives meaningfully and serves the society, he said.

He advised the students leaders to have moral values for it is only when one has moral responsibilities that they can live a meaningful life and lead the society likewise.

Chumpise also informed that at present, the Amahator area comprises of nine federating units (villages) – Kisetong, Amahator, Yingshükur, old Resethsi, new Resethsi, Changchore, Hurong, Keor and Bilongkyu.

The other speakers at the session were V Kashiho Sangtam, minister for Soil and Water Conservation, Geology and Mining and Dr H Apise Sangtam, secretary of USBLA.

During the session, a Longmikhi (folk song) competition was held among the Amahator Range Student’s Union representative units.
