The total blockade of National Highway 29 by aggrieved landowners affected by the Kohima–Jessami 2-lane road construction (Packages 2, 3, 4 & 5) passed off peacefully today.
The blockade will continue as the landowners await the outcome of a meeting convened by the Deputy Commissioner of Phek with all stakeholders involved in the damage compensation dispute. The meeting is scheduled for July 18 at 10:30 a.m. at the DC’s Conference Hall.
According to the Convenor, Kiiveliiyi Chuzho, the landowners remain resolute in their demand for the payment of long-overdue damage compensations, which has been the central issue of their peaceful protest.
The future of the blockade hinges on the outcome of the upcoming meeting and the commitments made by concerned parties to address the unresolved compensation matter.
