In a significant step toward collaborative peacebuilding and youth empowerment, Peace Channel hosted a strategic meeting with representatives from the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) on August 21 at the Peace Centre, Chümoukedima. The meeting marked the beginning of a promising partnership between the two organizations, both deeply committed to building a peaceful, inclusive, and empowered society.

The meeting commenced with a warm welcome address by Dr Fr CP Anto, Principal of NEISSR and Director of Peace Channel. Quoting the African proverb, “If you want to go fast, walk alone. But if you want to go far, walk together,” Dr. Anto set a positive and collaborative tone for the meeting. He extended heartfelt gratitude to the visiting dignitaries from YMCA, Sanjeev Momin, General Secretary, YMCA Nagaland, and Shamir J Thabah, Regional Secretary, YMCA North East Region.

Dr. Anto highlighted the shared mission of Peace Channel and YMCA in fostering peace, promoting secular values, and empowering youth and communities. He emphasized that this partnership could create impactful synergies to nurture a just and compassionate society.

Following the welcome note, Shamir J Thabah addressed the Peace Channel team, providing insights into YMCA’s rich legacy and core focus areas spiritual, physical, and mental development. He proudly shared that the YMCA is currently celebrating its 181st year of global service, reflecting on its longstanding commitment to youth empowerment.

Adding to the vision of collaboration, Barnic, Assistant Professor at NEISSR, introduced the Peace Knit Fest, a flagship initiative by Peace Channel. He proposed the Fest as a potential first collaborative program between Peace Channel and YMCA, aiming to bring together youth from various backgrounds to celebrate unity, peace, and diversity.

James Phanungkiu, Project Coordinator, and Saziini Chache, Researcher at Peace Channel, also shared their perspectives. They echoed the potential of the partnership in elevating both organizations to greater heights and fostering impactful community-driven programs.

The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks by Jose VA, Trainer at Peace Channel, who, on behalf of Dr Fr CP Anto and the Peace Channel team, extended gratitude to the YMCA representatives for their presence and openness to collaboration. He conveyed best wishes for the successful realization of the joint vision shared during the meeting.
