The 67th Kohima Village Sports Association (KVSA) Meet 2026 commenced on January 10 on the theme “Kevimerü,” with the Great Indian Barbet as its official mascot.
Chief Host and Advisor for School Education, Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, in his address highlighted the evolving character of the KVSA Meet. He described it as a platform that brings village residents together in unity and harmony, encouraging them to set aside differences. He also stressed the importance of maintaining an accurate record of the village population. Urging the youth to prioritise their health, he emphasised regular exercise and healthy eating habits. He further noted the potential of sports as a source of livelihood and encouraged everyone to remain humble and work diligently.
The welcome address was delivered by Helievio Solo, Chairman of the Kohima Village Council (KVC). He spoke on the formation of the Kohima Village Sports Association, noting that Kohima Village is about 709 years old. He recalled that the KVSA was established in 1944 at Thevokemouzie, with the objective of fostering unity and harmony through sports.
The programme began with a ceremonial run by the veterans.

Earlier, the ceremonial torch was lit at Thevokemouzie and carried by sportspersons to Khuochiezie. The prelude programme was led by KVYO Vice President Mhasimhalie Mathew Yhome, followed by an invocation prayer by Rev. Vichülie Kelio, Pastor, CRC Kohima Village.
KVYO President Er. Medozhazo Rutsa delivered the presidential address, while GB Medo-o Keretsü, Kohima Village Head, pronounced the traditional blessings.
The inaugural ceremony featured a march-past by contingents, lighting of the LXVII cauldron, rendition of the KVSA theme song, hoisting of the Khel flag, a veterans’ relay, and the oath-taking ceremony.
