In a heartwarming and purposeful ceremony, First Rain, a not-for-profit community center committed to fostering mental health, creativity, and personal growth, was officially launched on October 18 at Sangtemla Ward, Mokokchung. The event marked the beginning of a journey to create a space where individuals can find rest, purpose, and community.

A Vision Rooted in Recognition and Empowerment

The event’s highlight was the inspiring speech by First Rain’s founder, Lanusenla Jamir, who shared her personal experiences that shaped the vision for this initiative. She reflected on key moments from her childhood when others recognized her potential, which became foundational to her belief in the power of being seen and valued. Drawing from these experiences, Lanusenla explained how First Rain aims to offer individuals the same support she once received—helping people rediscover their purpose, grow, and align with their true selves.

“Our vision is simple but profound: to build a community of individuals who find rest in their purpose. We believe that fulfilment comes when we align with our true purpose, and in that alignment, we can finally rest,” she said. “We want to witness the stories of those who come through our doors, helping them discover their purpose and find peace within themselves.”

The short speech delivered by Imliyanger Jamir, First Rain’s patron and Lanusenla’s father, touched the hearts of the audience as he spoke about his daughter’s journey. He shared how Lanusenla’s schooling and upbringing helped shape the person she is today. His pride in his daughter’s accomplishments was seen as he recounted her passion and dedication to this dream, and how it is now coming to life in the form of First Rain.

He also emphasized the importance of mental health support and the role First Rain will play in empowering the youth and fostering creativity in the community.

The launch event was led by Dr. Bendangrenla S. Longkumer, with the invocation delivered by Shilula Imchen from the MTBA. The dedication of the center was led by Rev. Ponen Longchar, Pastor of MTBA, followed by a vote of thanks from David Moa Theyagaraj. The ceremony concluded with a benediction by Ayangla Theyagaraj. The core team includes Dr Bendangrenla S Longkumer and David Moa Theyagaraj.

First Rain is designed to provide a range of services tailored to the specific needs of the local community. As a not-for-profit community center, its mission focuses on holistic well-being, offering services such as one-on-one mental health counseling sessions with professionals, study spaces with Wi-Fi, a growing library, and a platform for artistic expression through events and exhibitions.

The center will also host seminars and workshops, starting with an upcoming event featuring a life coach and psychotherapist. The goal is to foster creativity, support mental well-being, and offer opportunities for personal and spiritual growth.
