The Directorate of Science and Technology, Government of Nagaland, in collaboration with the Southern Angami Students’ Union (SASU), successfully conducted a pioneering “2-day Hands-on Drone Workshop” on June 12–13 at the Village Council Hall, Kidima.
Marking Nagaland’s first-ever drone workshop aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the event aimed to promote skill-based STEM education. It brought together 120 student participants from 16 govt. and private schools across the Southern Area of Kohima District.
The program commenced with a warm welcome address by Kehozhol Noel Kulnu, President of SASU. The workshop was formally inaugurated by Special Guest, Zerütso Kesiezie, EAC, Kezocha, who exhorted the students to enthusiastically embrace the rapidly evolving world of technology, urging them to utilize such rare, hands-on opportunities to cultivate an innovative mindset and build practical skills.
Highlighting the visionary foundation of the initiative, Er Onongoto Soleho, Chief Mentor at the Innovation Hub & SEC, Department of Science & Technology, delivered the background note. He stated that the 2-Day Drone Workshop was a pioneering initiative and sanction of the Director, Science & Technology Department curated and tailored to bridge the much-needed gap among the aspirational students and the NEP driven focus on integration of emerging technologies in Nagaland. He emphasized that science and technological dissemination is the need of the hour for Nagaland to bridge the regional digital divide, shift students from consumer to creator mindsets, and fulfil the experiential learning and vocational goals envisioned by NEP 2020.

The Technical Sessions were led by Er Vikuovotuo Zhale, Jr Mentor, Er Mhasheto Yhobu, Technical Assistant and Er Kekhruseto Soleho, Intern Engineer. The intensive two-day workshop saw students’ progress rapidly from identifying drone components and assembling chassis to completing advanced circuitry, executing live test flights, and vying in an energetic Inter-School Drone Flight Competition.
The landmark event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Noseto Ltu, Finance Secretary of SASU, sealing a major milestone that effectively equips Nagaland’s student community with future-ready technological skills in line with modern educational goals.
