The Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Nagaland celebrated the 20th National Statistics Day on the theme “Unlocking the Potential of Administrative Data” on June 29 at the Directorate premises.
National Statistics Day is celebrated every year on 29th June to commemorate the birth anniversary of Professor Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis, the eminent statistician and architect of India’s modern statistical system, in recognition of his pioneering contributions to the field of statistics and economic planning.
Director, Economics & Statistics, Neidilhou Keditsu, speaking on the theme noted that the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) has launched a four-stage consultative process, namely National agenda-setting, National Level Consultative Workshop, State Level Internal Workshop and National Deliberative Summit, to build a shared vision and actionable roadmap for harmonization of administrative datasets at the State level and for making data machine readable, interoperable and AI ready.

As a preliminary step to achieve this vision, the Directorate of Economics and Statistics has initiated the preparation of Metadata of its publications in line with the National Metadata Structure 2.0. Further, he encouraged all officers and staff to remain committed to the generation of quality, reliable and timely statistical data.
As part of the celebration, the District Economics & Statistics Office (DESO), Wokha was awarded the Best Performing District Office in recognition of its exemplary effort and outstanding performance during the Special Drive on Online Registration of Births and Deaths held from 5th to 20th February 2026.
The celebration reaffirmed the Department’s commitment to promoting quality statistics, strengthening administrative data systems, and supporting informed decision-making for the socio-economic development of the State.
